BINTULU: Columbia Asia Hospital Bintulu ( CAHB) will be carrying out its 19th ‘ Cleft Lip and Palate Charity Project’ from July 12 to 15.

According to CAHB general manager Hazlim Sham Ibrahim, patients who have registered under this charity project will be assessed for eligibility for corrective surgery this July 12.

He said a total of 356 cleft lip and palate corrective surgeries had been carried in out at CAHB since 2004.

“This charity project is funded by Cleft Lip and Palate Association of Malaysia (Clapam) and run in collaboration with Columbia Asia Hospital– Bintulu,” said Hazlim, adding that the hospital provides the venue and facilities for surgeries as well as other necessary assistance for patients and their guardians.

“To date, 17 patients have registered for assessment for restorative surgery,” said Hazlim.

According to him, this project is targeting children from the rural areas who are born with cleft lips and palates, with a total family income of less than RM2,000 a month.

However, he said those partially fulfilling the criteria could register with CAHB for assessment.

Those who do not meet the criteria are welcome to contact the hospital for advice.
