KUCHING: Works Minister Baru Bian is looking forward to having a close working relationship with the Sarawak government in bringing development to the state.

He expressed Pakatan Harapan’s ( PH) readiness to work together with the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government in striving to achieve a common goal for both the state and nation.

“I think the spirit showed by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is very good. As far as development for the people is concerned, we need to put politics aside.

“We must focus on developing the state and the nation for the sake of the ‘ rakyat’. That is the most important thing to do,” he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Abang Johari at his office at the State Legislative Assembly ( DUN) Complex here yesterday.

Baru, who is PKR Sarawak chairman and Selangau MP, said during the discussion with the chief minister, he emphasised that the federal PH government is prepared to work together with the Sarawak government.

He noted that there were many areas where the purview of his ministry affects projects in Sarawak, particularly concerning infrastructure, schools and hospitals.

“I have conveyed this concern of mine to the chief minister that these are the areas that are of great concern to all Sarawakians.

“You all know that I have raised these (issues) up and many of my colleagues from PH have also been raising all issues pertaining to these areas. The chief minister is also very open and I think he gave us the assurance that they (GPS) are prepared to work with us as well,” he said.

Accompanying Baru during the courtesy call were PH representatives and officials from the Works Ministry, including its secretary-general Dato Sri Zohari Akob.
