TYT lauds Sarawak’s focus on rural devt
THE Sarawak government’s heavy focus on rural development has been lauded as a move that will further accelerate rural growth in terms of basic infrastructure and increasing economic potential.
Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud said he is very pleased that the state government has provided a huge allocation for developing basic infrastructure in rural areas.
“I hope that the state government will continue to implement and focus on peoplecentric projects.
“After 55 years of independence in Malaysia there is no reason why we do not use the existing provisions to ensure that water, electricity and roads are solved, built or restored so that every citizen can enjoy the same facilities as other people in Malaysia,” said Taib in his opening address at the State Legislative Assembly ( DUN) yesterday.
On urbanisation, he said major towns such as Kuching, Miri, Sibu and Bintulu continued to be the focus of the population for services, education, business and employment opportunities.
“I urge all parties involved in town planning and development to always advance the needs of the people,” he said.
The Head of State pointed out that urbanisation should also include the provision of more affordable housing, adequate recreation areas and efficient public transport system.
“Access to these modern infrastructure and facilities will certainly change the lifestyle of residents in increasingly complex urban areas.
“I hope we will continue to defend customs and traditions, maintain the spirit of belonging and mutual respect to ensure that the well-being of the people will be preserved,” he added.
