TYT happy with smooth power transition in federal govt
KUCHING: The smooth transition of leadership at the federal government level is a reflection of the people’s maturity in democracy to achieve political stability.
This bodes well for Malaysia as political stability is vital for the development and administration of a country, Yang di- Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud stated in his opening address at the State Legislative Assembly yesterday.
“I believe that this is a manifestation of democratic maturity among Malaysians who are made up of different races, religions and political affiliations,” said the Head of State.
He added that all Malaysians want unity to achieve peace and political stability.
Taib commended the civil servants who have shown professionalism to ensure the country remains calm - especially during the transition of power.
He added that Sarawakians are putting their hopes high on the federal government to continue developments in the state.
All the promises made in their 14th general election manifesto, he said, should be implemented to benefit the people.
“Sarawak still needs infrastructure projects and basic amenities especially in the rural areas. Sarawak is vast with a scattered population in the rural areas. Road networks should be upgraded while water and electricity coverage should be expanded,” he added.
Another area that needs improvement, he pointed out, is the provision of quality education and health services to the people.
Taib also said federal government projects that can bring a big impact to Sarawakians, especially those in the rural areas, should be continued.
“Infrastructure projects such as the Pan Borneo Highway should be completed according to plan. This project is very important to Sarawak’s socio- economic development,” he added.
He also hoped that the development of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) would be strengthened.
According to him, the implementation of SCORE is an important aspect to boost Sarawak’s economy to a higher level.
He also said the support of the federal government is much needed to successfully implement the state’s digital economy plan.
“This is important to bridge the digital gap between Sarawak and the more advanced areas in Malaysia,” he added.
Taib also said he was glad that Sarawak government is taking a friendly approach to and working closely with the federal government, saying such cooperation is important to continue developing Sarawak regardless of the ruling political party.
“The cooperation offered by Sarawak government to the federal government clearly shows the maturity of political leadership as development and the well-being of the people should precede political interests,” said Taib.
He also expressed hope that the federal government will carry out their responsibilities to develop Sarawak in accordance with the provisions of the Federal Constitution.
With the sincerity of Sarawak government to work with the federal government, this will ensure that development plans in Sarawak can be implemented successfully, he added.
