Community leaders gain invaluable experience from Sabah educational trip
MARUDI: Thirty- one local community leaders and members of village security and development committees (JKKKs) from the Poyut/ Lubok Nibong area in Mulu constituency gained lots of exposure during their trip to Sabah recently.
The one-week programme was initiated and primarily sponsored by Mulu assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala, with assistance from Baram MP Anyi Ngau.
The delegates visited many places of interest during the educational trip such as the Sabah Tea plantation, the famous Tamparuli Bridge and the cow farms in Kundasang.
According to Gerawat, the programme was meant to foster closer relationships between the local pemanca, penghulu, kapitan and ketua kampung, as well as JKKK chairmen, who are from different races.
“It also allows them to interact and share ideas with their Sabahan counterparts.
“They also get to enjoy the cool and fresh air in the highlands of Sabah,” he said.
In his remarks Penghulu Randie Bundan, who led the Marudi delegation, expressed his appreciation to Gerawat for providing the opportunity for them to gain new experience.
“Very seldom do we get this chance, especially those in Marudi and Baram generally,” he said .
Among those joined the group were Pemanca Chong Chin Hui and Penghulu Tie King Un representing the Chinese community.
Many of the delegates also brought back gifts for their loved ones.
Among those who joined the trip was Nancy John Abau from Marudi District Office.
