Over 400 medical professionals to attend diabetes conference
MIRI: Over 400 medical professionals are expected to attend the 1st Borneo Diabetes Conference to be held at a hotel here from July 13 to 15.
Sixteen speakers will share diabetes-related information at the three- day conference jointly organised by Diabetes Malaysia, Miri branch ( DMMB), Sarawak Pharmaceutical Society, Miri Hospital and Miri Divisional Health Department.
The three-day conference themed ‘Diabetes: What The Future Hold’ will focus on topics such as cardiovascular diseases, primary care in diabetes, diabetes and complications, selfmonitoring blood glucose, diabetes and elder, foot and wound care, children and adolescents and diet and diabetes educator.
The foreign speakers are Prof Dr. Alice Pik Chan Kong ( Hong Kong), Dr. Samuel Chen ( Taiwan) and Prof. Dr.Nemancio Nicodemus Jr. (the Philippines). Speakers from Malaysia are Dr. Zanariah Hussein, Dr. Feisul Idzwan Mustapha, Prof. Dato’ Wan Mohamad Wan Bebakar, Prof Dato’ Dr. Ikram Shah Ismail, Prof Dato’ Dr. ANuar Zaini Md Zain, Prof Dato’ Dr. Mafauzy Mohamed, Prof Dr. Nor Azmi Kamaruddin, Dr. Florence Tan Hui Sieng, Dr. Fauziah Mohd Zain, Dr. Kuan Yueh Chien, Dr. Lau Bik Kui, Dr. Loh Huai Heng and Ridzoni Sulaiman.
The conference to be held from 8am to 5pm, comprises nine sessions of plenary covering various diabetes-related topics, four sessions of ‘Meet the Experts’ and six sessions of symposiums.
It offers a platform to discuss recent scientific advances and innovations in improving the management of diabetes and standard of care for people with diabetes.
Health Ministry’s deputy secretary-general ( public health) Dato Dr Azman Abu Bakar is expected to grace the conference on July 13 (Friday) at 4pm.
