‘Behave according to the teachings of Islam’
SARIKEI: Muslims have been called on to behave according to the teachings of Islam in order to reflect the real beauty of the religion.
Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association ( Macma) president Prof Dr Taufiq Yap Yun Hin said Islam preaches good life values, which are enshrined in the Quran.
Yap said it is most unfortunate that some Muslims misbehaved, giving the public, especially nonMuslims, a wrong impression of Islam.
“Most regrettable is that some Muslims had behaved in a manner that reflected Islam as a religion which condones violence, extremism, or terrorism,” he lamented during a Macma Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering here recently.
He also stressed that the teachings of Islam are about fostering love, a caring attitude, and other positive life values.
During the function, Yap presented tithes to members in need and duit raya to children.
Among those present were deputy president Shahrin Low, secretary Nurul Nadhirah Liew, Sarawak chairman Mohammad Tony Ong Abdullah, Sarikei chairman Shahrulnizam Wong, and Sarawak secretary Jamaludin James Hiew.
