Dr Yii in effort to fulfil PH manifesto
KUCHING: Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii said he is pushing in Parliament for what is promised in the state Pakatan Harapan ( PH) manifesto to be fulfilled, including the setting up of a Cabinet Committee that will look into and review the different legislations which will include the Petroleum Development Act 1974 ( PDA74).
The Cabinet Committee would also be proposed with the intention to make the necessary recommendations and measures to rectify the status of Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) based on current legislation to the Cabinet within six months of its formation, he said when contacted yesterday.
“We are committed to restoring both states ( Sarawak and Sabah) to their rightful place as enshrined in MA63 and the Federal Constitution,” said Dr Yii who is State Democratic Action Party (DAP) Youth secretary.
Dr Yii pointed out that PH Sarawak including state DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen did not object to the bill to amend the Oil Mining Ordinance, 1958 ( OMO58) as claimed by State Reform Party Sarawak ( STAR) president Lina Soo.
“He (Chong) was just pointing out the conflict of law that has to be rectified,” said Dr Yii when referring to Kota Sentosa assemblyman Chong’s participation in the debate on the Oil Mining (Amendment) Bill, 2018 which was eventually passed by the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) on Tuesday.
When contacted to comment on Soo’s allegation, Chong said Soo is entitled to her opinion on the interpretation of the law but he would stick to his own interpretation.
