According to Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) Betong operations officer PBK1 Henry Jugah, they received a report at around 11.30am from the victim’s seven friends who were with him at the time.

After failing to rescue the victim themselves, the friends sought help from the authorities.

“They (the friends) made a police report of the incident, which triggered the SAR operations involving Bomba, police and local residents,” Henry told reporters.

The river is about 15 feet deep and operations will continue until the victim is found, he said.
