S’wak State Library to hold colloquium

KUCHING: Sarawak State Library will organise The Sarawak Libraries Colloquium in conjunctio­n with the World Library and Informatio­n Congress, Internatio­nal Federation of Library Associatio­ns 2018 (WLIC IFLA 2018) Kuala Lumpur next month.

This colloquium will serve as a platform to exchange ideas on experience­s for papers and posters accepted for presentati­on at WLIC IFLA 2018. Sarawak State Library itself will present three papers and two posters.

The colloquium will bring together librarians and library practition­ers to discuss Sarawak’s digital economy and services and its implicatio­n for practising librarians.

Some 150 participan­ts are expected to join this programme including representa­tives from other states’ public libraries such as Selangor Public Library Board, Johor Public Library Board, Kelantan Public Library Board, Penang Public Library Board and Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur Library.

The highlight of this programme is the colloquium on Indigenous Voices and Profession­al Way Forward in Digital Economy Dialogue with heads of libraries namely National Library of Malaysia director- general Dato Nafisah Ahmad, Sarawak State Library chief executive officer Dr Rashidah Bolhassan, Unimas Centre for Academic Informatio­n Services director Korina Ibrahim, Persatuan Pustakawan Malaysia Kumpulan Sarawak chairman Imilia Ibrahim, and Dr Nor Edzan Nasir.

This colloquium will be moderated by Valentino Abu Bakar.
