SIBU: SM Wong Nai Siong School board of directors chairman Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming reminded teachers and students to work together and help contribute towards the development of Chinese education in the country.

He also called on the board of directors to strive together with teachers to bring Chinese education in the country to greater heights.

“As long as we all work together, stay united with one heart, I am sure the development of Chinese education will see a better tomorrow,” he added.

Lau said this when speaking at the Teacher’s Day celebration at the school hall yesterday morning.

Among those present were principal Lu Yew Hiing and the board’s deputy chairman Chieng Buong Toon.

Earlier, Lau reminded the teachers of the crucial roles they played in the society.

“Teachers have been regarded as the candles of the people for it is they who bring light and hope to them,” he said.

He likened teachers to rocks that lay on the pavement which people walk on in their pursuit for glory.

Lau said teachers have a sacred mission to serve the society and must therefore be committed and passionate in carrying out their duties.

As such, he urged teachers to always upgrade and equip themselves with the latest knowledge and share it with their students.

“In today’s era, an endless stream of new knowledge keeps on emerging and it is vital that teachers keep pace with the change.” He said this would not only enhance their own knowledge but also directly help to nurture better students.

Lau added becoming a teacher reflects their standing, reputation and the attention they received from the society.

“Teachers are regarded highly and it is therefore necessary that you become a role model for the students to emulate.

“What you say and do will have a great impact on the students,” he stressed.

Besides paying attention to teaching, Lau said teachers should also double their efforts by also educating the people.

When the people are better educated, he said it would strengthen their moral values, hence cultivating a thorough understanding in building a better country.

By choosing to study in SM Wong Nai Siong, Lau said the students had made the right choice.

He assured the students of getting the best from the school, both from the academic as well as from the physical and moral aspects.

“The teachers in the school are vigorous and innovative in helping the students to achieve more.”
