Afiq wins men’s singles for Sarawak’s first gold
KUCHING: Sukma bowler Abang Afiq Abang Azman delivered the fi rst gold medal for the Sarawak team at the 31st Interstate Bowling Championship at Sunway Megalanes, Sunway Pyramid in Selangor on Monday.
Afiq felled 1,392 pins to beat 59 others in the men’s singles, fi nishing 24 pins ahead of Mohd Fadli Ramli of Negeri Sembilan and Wan Nadzmi Fikri of Selangor who scored 1,278 pins and 1,168 pins respectively.
The opening day also saw Sarawak’s Nerosha Kel igit Thiagarajan taking the silver in the women’s singles after knocking down 1,283 pins.
The gold was won by Hee Kar Yen of Kuala Lumpur who scored 1,344 pins while Qistina Zainal of Selangor took the bronze with 1,241 pins.
Meanwhile, Abner Loo Chun Lik- Gordon Tsen Fan Yew and Mohd Nur Syafiq Mohd AmranMuhd Zuhayr Redza Noor Azrul fi nished among the top three in the boy’s doubles.
Abner- Gordon posted a total score of 2,422 pinfalls over six games for the silver while SyafiqZuhayr were on target for the bronze with 2,361 pins.
The gold was won by the pair of Wan Syahmi Razni and Akmal Qayyim from Negeri Sembilan with 2,459 pins.
Other bowlers in the state team for the Astro 42nd Malaysian and 31st Interstate Bowling Championship are Ervin Lim Wai Mun, Christopher Tiong Lee Siong and Mohd Uzair Irsyad Noor Azrul ( men’s), Dayang Khairuniza Dhiyana Abang Jamaliddon, Nur Aina Kamalia Abdul Ayub, Nur Hazirah Ramli (women’s), Dayang Yumi Azreen Abang Azman, Nur Haziqah Raml i , Asya Dania Azree and Lavina Kho Jia Jie ( girls youth).
The team manager is ABAS deputy president Shaifulbahri Shukr i whi le ABAS v ic e president Robert Lu is the assistant manager.
Team chief coach is Jackson Ting and assistant coaches are Angelo Koay, Bong Kihow and Daniel Tan.
