Rep wants govt to build roads in constituency

-

YUSSIBNOSH Balo ( PBBTellian) has called on the Gabungan Parti Sarawak ( GPS) government to consider implementing three road projects in the constituency.

He said one of the road projects is the link from Rumah Empi, Nanga Sikat to Rumah Megong, Nanga Taroh, Mukah which is estimated to cost RM88 million and will benefit the people in Ulu Sikat and Sebakong.

“The Ulu Sikat and Sebakong areas are lagging behind in terms of development with no basic infrastructure and utilities such as road linkages, water and electricity supply.

“There is no road linking these areas and the residents have to use river transport as their mode of transportation to go from one place to another. There are four longhouses identified in the area with total population of more than 1,700 people.

“The longhouses are linked by river and earth track. Thus, it is difficult for the people to access government facilities such as school, hospital as well as commercial centre,” he said when debating the motion of thanks for the Yang Di- Pertua Negeri’s opening address in the DUN yesterday.

He also proposed for an 11km road to be built linking Kpg Medong, Lebrasau and Klid, Dalat, estimated to cost RM44 million.

“Kampung Medong, Lebrasau and Kampung Klid are inhabited by more than 2,000 people mostly Melanau, and are the major villages in Dalat District. The only means of transportation is by river. This poses grave danger especially to students who go to school at SMK Dalat and SMK Oya,” he said.

The other road project he proposed is the 13km link from Kpg Klid, Narub and Nanga Baoh, Dalat, costing RM65 million.

“The completion of this road will provide linkage to existing Jalan Medong. There is no road linking these villages and the residents have to use river transport as their mode of transportation to go from one place to another. There are 8 longhouses and 2 kampungs identified in the area with total population of more than 1,500 people, mainly Iban, Melanau and Chinese,” he said.
