The Ministry for Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development has no plan at the moment, to take over all Community Development Department ( Kemas) kindergartens and childcare centres in the State.

Its minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said that any policy changes must be fully researched and presented and approved at the Parliamentary level first. She said this when answering a question from Miro Simuh ( Serembu) during the Question and Answer session at the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.

Fatimah said there were 1,540 kindergartens with 21,201 children and 79 childcare centres with 1,122 children in 2017 while this year, there are 1,515 kindergartens with 20,583 children and 87 childcare centres with 1,182 children.

These kindergartens and childcare centres incurred over RM39.7 million to run them in 2017 and over RM48 million in 2018. The expenses include emoluments, repairs, equipment, supplementary food aid and grant per capita, she said.
