KUCHING: Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi yesterday distributed RM55,000 worth of grants to seven recreational clubs of Sarawak Islamic agencies.

Among the recipients were Sarawak Islamic Council’s Welfare and Recreation Club ( Karisma), Mufti Office’s Staff Welfare Club, Islamic Information Centre’s Aviecena Club, and Sports and Recreation Club of Jabatan Agama Islam Sarawak.

Dr Abdul Rahman when giving out the grants urged the clubs to include members of the public and youths in their future programmes.

“Engaging them in your programmes will open up the doors to more understanding on the roles and functions of your agencies,” he said.

“Programmes held should be used to uphold and empower Islam and remember to engage Muslim youths to bring them closer to the state Islamic agencies,” he reminded.

He also added that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg had tasked him to handle and assist Islamic associations in Sarawak.

“What’s more important is for state Islamic agencies to work together and ensure that their roles remain relevant and achieve goals of the organisations,” he said.

At the same function, Dr Abdul Rahman also presented RM20,000 for the Sarawak Islamic agencies’ annual sports event to be held soon.
