Man gets jail, fine for two theft charges

MIRI: The Magistrate­s’ Court here yesterday sentenced a man to a total of 22 months in jail and RM6,000 in fines after he pleaded guilty to two theft charges.

Mohd Izzwandee Wasli from Tudan Phase 6 here was charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

For the first charge, Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa sentenced Mohd Izzwandee to 10 months’ jail and a fine of RM4,000 in default four months’ jail; while for the second charge, he was sentenced to 12 months’ jail and a fine of RM2,000 in default four months’ jail.

The court ordered for the jail sentences to run consecutiv­ely.

For the first charge, Mohd Izzwandee stole a 50- inch television worth RM2,000 at 10.30am on June 2 from the third f loor of a shopping complex at Jalan Permaisuri.

For the second charge, he stole two identity cards, a driving license, two mobile phones, two powerbanks, a handbag, and two ATM cards belonging to a woman.

He committed the offence at noon on July 2 at a rented room here.

In mitigation, Mohd Izzwandee pleaded for a lighter sentence as he has two children, who are being cared for by his mother.
