Magistrates’ Court fines drug abuser RM3,000
MIRI: The Magistrates’ Court here yesterday fined a man RM3,000 in default four months’ jail for drug abuse.
Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa also ordered for Andy Hon to undergo two years’ police supervision.
Zuraini passed the sentence after Hon pleaded guilty to the charge read to him according to Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act ( DDA) 1952, which is punishable under Section 15 of the same Act.
Based on facts of the case, the accused used the dangerous drug 11-nor-Delta( 9) - t e t r a hyd r o c a n nabi no l - 9 - carboxylic acid, a marijuana metabolite, which is listed under Schedule 1 of the Act.
He committed the offence at 9.30am on July 15, 2017 at the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division office here.
Insp Mohd Khairi Mohd Noor prosecuted, while the accused was unrepresented.
In another case in the same courtroom, a man was ordered to be released on RM3,000 bail with two local sureties after he claimed trial to possession of the dangerous drug methamphetamine.
Liaw Tze Loong, 41, from Jalan Berembang 1, Lorong 3 Pujut 7B here faces the charge under Section 12 ( 2) of the DDA, which is punishable under Section 12 (3) of the same Act.
The Section provides for a fine of up to RM100,000, or five years’ jail, or both. Zuraini set Aug 8 for case management.
According to the charge, Liaw was allegedly in possession of methamphetamine weighing 0.25 grams.
He allegedly committed the offence at 10am on March 26 in a bedroom on the ground floor of his house.
