SIBU: A group of volunteers involved in the ` Run For Love’ campaign is planning another `722 Family Beach Clean-Up Day’, slated to be held in Dalat on July 22 at 3pm.

Organising chairperson Loh Yu Yee said the event is to mark Sarawak Independence Day which falls on July 22.

“As we mark Sarawak Independence Day, we would like to convey a message to the people of Sarawak that we need to show our love for our beaches and ensure that our next generation will be able to enjoy them free of pollution,” she added.

Loh called on members of the public, including families, to join the event and together help change the landscape of our beautiful beaches. She added the ` 722 Family Beach Clean Up Day’ will promote awareness of the need to take care and protect our oceans, nature and at the same time, educate the younger generation on the importance of protecting the environment.

She said participants will meet at a designated place in Dalat to get the details on the campaign before proceeding to the beach for the clean-up activity.

Loh added to make the event more interesting, the organiser will hold a `collecting the most rubbish’ competition among the participants before taking a group photo.

Run For Love, Loh said, will also come up with a short video

“If we still continue discarding unwanted materials into the ocean, there will come a time when the ocean will no longer be able to sustain marine life due to the huge amount of plastics being dumped there,” she added.
