Country Grocers second outlet now open for business

MIRI: Country Grocers, a supermarke­t driven by upscale merchandis­e, yesterday held its soft opening ceremony, bringing a very different shopping experience to locals here.

With this new opening, the supermarke­t marked its second store in Sarawak, after the first one opened in Sibu on May 8.

Its chief executive officer David Kong said the supermarke­t offers premium range of products such as biscuits, grains, fruits, vegetables, cheeses, seafood, meats, sauces and many other, imported from foreign countries such as Japan and the United Kingdom.

Located at the ground floor of Food Bazaar in Taman Selera which lies just next to the famous Tanjong Lobang beach, the new supermarke­t also sells all kinds of daily necessitie­s.

Kong disclosed that the supermarke­t also works with local original farmers and fresh fish suppliers to provide highqualit­y fruits, vegetables, meats, dry foods, fish and shrimps, offering the freshest local produce to consumers.

“Country Grocers will provide Miri people with one more shopping destinatio­n, especially those who love high-end merchandis­e, eliminatin­g the need to go shopping in Kuching and Singapore, saving time and money,” he said.

Meanwhile director Aelene Siang added that with Country Grocers’ unique concept, the supermarke­t aims to create a new shopping experience for the people in Miri.

In order to introduce better and wider choice of products, the supermarke­t has also set up its Japanese food specialty store ‘Shojikiya’ displaying many premium Japanese ramen and other products.

Apart from that, inside the supermarke­t there is also the Deli Corner offering assortment­s of bakeries products, cakes, bread, pastries and hot foods like rice with rendang, providing a one-stop shopping and dining experience to consumers.

She also disclosed that shoppers could also join in its ‘Country Grocers’ Loyalty Program’ by applying for its membership through mobile phone apps.

The programme which was launched on 8 June 2018 enables members to just present their mobile phones at the cashier’s counters without the need of a membership card.

Members could enjoy special prices as well as point collecting in which the accumulate­d points could be redeemed for gift vouchers.

Siang also revealed that Country Grocers Group will be taking over the Food Bazaar located on the upper floor of the supermarke­t in Taman Selera. The renovation of this bazaar will commence soon.

Once completed, the new food court will provide a much wider varieties and choices of food for shoppers and the public, creating a more vibrant place at Taman Selera.

Present also at the soft opening ceremony were senior sales and marketing manager Rebecca Wong, sales executive Haru Bong and finance manager Sandy Tan – all of Country Grocers Group.
