KUCHING: Sarawak Tourism Board ( STB) and other relevant parties are taking precautions in anticipation of the huge turnout at this year’s Rainforest World Music Festival ( RWMF) and also slow traffic f low on the road leading to Pantai Damai in Santubong – where the event is taking palce.

The board advises the festivalgoers to abide by the traffic rules and instructions from the police personnel on duty, apart from planning their time ahead.

“We have laid out a good traffic plan for the festival and we hope that everyone would abide by the rules and traffic instructions, and avoid illegal parking to ensure smooth and uninterrupted traffic f low in and out of the festival venue,” said STB in a press release issued yesterday.

RWMF 2018 kicked off to a good start yesterday with crowds converging on and the traffic running in an orderly manner — thanks to the police and traffic volunteers.

There are two traffic checkpoints meant to facilitate traffic control – one at One Hotel Santubong, and the other at the venue pick- up point; manned by six traffic police personnel operating in shifts.

“Illegal parking will not be tolerated – there will be a tow truck on site to remove illegally parked vehicles that hinder

“Towed cars will be brought to the Damai Beach ResortSarawak Cultural Village ( SCV) roundabout where owners can claim and pay the towing bill,” STB reminded.

Festival- goers are advised to park their vehicles at the road leading to One Hotel Santubong, where they would be charged parking fees.

From there, they can take the shuttle service to take them to and from the RMWF 2018 venue – costing RM7 per trip for each adult, and RM4 per trip for each child.

“There are free bus shuttle services with stations at the Hills Shopping Mall, Riverside Majestic Astana Wing, Harbour View Hotel and Merdeka Palace Hotel and Suites (in the city).

“Visitors can also use Grab service, which is running a promotion throughout the festival period, which offers RM10 off the fares on four rides per user, using the code RWMF2018.”

STB also expressed its thanks to police for their assistance in ensuring security at the festival site.

RWMF 2018 is taking place at SCV here this weekend.

It is supported by the federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry and the Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry of Sarawak; and endorsed by Tourism Malaysia with AirAsia as the flight partner and Grab as transport partner.
