MIRI: Curtin Malaysia in Senadin here has been chosen as the venue for the first ‘ Slide The City’ water slide carnival in East Malaysia.

Organised by Monkey Theory Sdn Bhd together with the university’s student council, the two- day carnival will be held starting Sept 15.

Monkey Theory chief executive officer Leong Delon said the first Slide The City event took place in the United States in 2014.

Since then, the carnival has received good response from various countries such as Canada, the United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan and China.

“The first Slide The City in Malaysia was held in Kuala Lumpur in December 2015 followed by Melaka, Pahang, Johor, Penang and Selangor.

“Miri has been chosen for the first Slide the City Malaysia carnival in Sabah and Sarawak because the city is located strategically at the northwest coast of the island of Borneo.

“As Miri has yet to have water theme park, we hope this twoday water party will leave locals and visitors with wonderful memories,” he told a press conference held jointly with Miri mayor Adam Yii at Miri City Council yesterday.

Leong said the main highlight of the carnival will be a gigantic three-lane water slide that will provide lots of fun for adults and young thrill- seekers.

In addition, there will be also side activities such as live entertainment, fun games, a wide selection of food and beverages, retail and activity stalls run by student clubs and many others to give a real carnival- like atmosphere to the event.

Yii, meanwhile, said the event will help further boost tourism activities in the city, adding Miri needs more crowd-puller events to make it a ‘ festival city’ for both locals and visitors.

Tickets for the carnival are now available and can be purchased online at www.slidethecity.asia.
