KUCHING: The Social Security Organisation ( Socso) Sarawak will launch its Ops Kesan on Aug 1 to detect employers who fail to register their company and employees under the organisation.

Its director Philip Sangkan said any employer found to be eligible but have yet to register with Socso would be issued compound notices during the operation.

“I urge all qualified employers to voluntarily come forward to the nearest Socso office across the state to register their company and employees,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He stressed that failure to register with Socso is an offence where compounds between RM500 and RM4,000 will be issued or if convicted, the employer would be fined not exceeding RM10,000 or jailed not exceeding two years or both.

“Apart from that, the employer will also be charged a six per cent interest per year annually on each late monthly contribution due to late registration with Socso,” he remarked.

Philip pointed out that last year, there were 36,865 active employers in the state registered with Socso while up till June this year, a total of 53,741 active employers in the state have registered with the organisation.

He also disclosed that 291 employers were issued compound notices while 143 others were brought to court for various offences up to December 2017.

“In this regard, I urge employers and workers to work together with Socso to ensure that the level of compliance for all employers and companies are high as provided under Act 4, Act 789 and Act 800,” he said.

Earlier this month, Socso chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed announced that Socso was giving an amnesty period from July 1 to 31 for employers to come forward and register their workers.

He said during this period, employers who voluntarily register their workers will be exempted from being compounded and prosecuted. This exemption also includes a waiver on late payment interests.
