-

BINTULU: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency ( MMEA) Bintulu zone launched its customer service counter (CSC) yesterday, the first of its kind for the agency in Sarawak in its effort to be more responsive to people’s grouses.

MMEA Bintulu director Captain ( M) Shahref Steve Mac Queen Abdullah said it was a historic event for himself who had just reported for duty last month and also for the officers and staff.

He said the main purpose of setting up the counter was to serve the public especially the maritime community more effectively.

Speaking to reporters after the official launching ceremony, Shahref said apart from the CSC, MMEA Bintulu had created the official Facebook page called ‘Zone Maritim Bintulu’ in order to get faster and more feedback from the people.

“Next week, we will create our first Twitter account for the agency in Sarawak and all these initiatives is for us to get closer to the communities and enable us to improve and provide the best service,” he said.

All these efforts, he added, were to show that the maritime agency is a customer-friendly agency that can be easily approached for any maritime-related services.

Shahref said the idea is to reach out to the locals, enhance its communication system so that the people can be the eyes and ears of the agency.

The close cooperation from the public he said is vital so that the enforcers can carry out their duties effectively.

He pointed out that the initiative was also aimed to solve the previous communication breakdown between the agency and members of the public.

Also present at the event were MMEA Bintulu assistant director Timothy Alexander and MMEA Bintulu deputy director Commander Hambali Ya’akup.
