Learning Iban language through karaoke songs
KUCHING: Those who wish to learn the Iban Language can do so through Iban Karaoke songs, said secretary of Persatuan Anak Seni Malaysia (Panisa) Isa Lee.
Isa noted that Iban karaoke songs are popular even among other races. These are noticeable at karaoke lounges and even at official functions, he added.
Hence, learners of the Iban language and music composers and lyricists alike should see a window of opportunity in Iban Karaoke songs.
However Isa cautioned composers and lyricists to be extra careful in their works so as not to create a wrong perception or confusion over Iban culture, tradition and heritage through their end products.
“Composers and lyricists of Iban songs must be equally responsible in ensuring that the Iban culture, tradition and heritage are not ridiculed and misrepresented in their products. Therefore it is advisable for composers and lyricists to consult language experts before deciding to release their songs. This is important for the development of the Dayak music industry as well as the Iban language,” he said when contacted here yesterday.
Isa is in the midst of promoting his single ‘ Tubai Pengrindu’ which is frequently aired on Iban radio programmes and youtube.
He said his song includes Iban idiom and hyperbole which Iban language learners and enthusiasts may have interest in.
