Katahil, SJN FC share spoils in Mayor’s Cup

KUCHING: Katahil FC lifted the MBKS Mayor’s Cup when they overpowere­d Iriz FC 3-1 in the final of the Men’s Open at Jubilee Ground yesterday.

The win earned them RM2,000 in prize money while Iriz FC received RM1,000.

Losing semi-finalists KASLAP and PUTD each pocketed RM500.

The Men’s Veteran title went to SJN FC who beat Stampin Hippo FC 2- 0 in the final to collect RM2,000 while the latter received RM1,000.

MBKS and Losso FC, who were the losing semi- finalists, each picked up RM500.

The best player in the men’s veteran competitio­n was former Croc Ramos Sari while Iqmal Mustaqkim Kamarodin and Mohd Shafiq Musa were the joint best players in the Men’s Open.

Deputy MBKS mayor Hilmi Othman, who closed the event and gave away the prizes, commended the organising committee led by co- chairmen Iskandar Sharkawi and Sufian Atteng for a job well done.

“This is an annual event organised in conjunctio­n with the Kuching Festival which is celebratin­g its 30th anniversar­y this year.

“I am also pleased to see that the tournament has attracted 24 teams with participat­ion by a few foreign students from Swinburne University,” he noted.

He added that the organisers are planning to add another category for school teams next year to help to unearth young talents.
