PH govt continues commitment to Paris Agreement 2015

-

KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakatan Harapan ( PH) government will continue the country’s commitment to the Paris Agreement 2015, which was signed in April 2016 in efforts to reduce global warming.

Minister of Energy, Technology, Science, Climate Change and Environment Yeo Bee Yin said the ministry would implement several plans and policies in meeting the requirements of the agreement.

“We will develop a strategic action plan for adaptation and mitigation of climate change that includes greenhouse gas reduction measures such as increasing electricity generation through renewable resources from two per cent to 20 per cent that was pledged in the PH manifesto.

“The ministry is also preparing a carbon inventory report that will be tabled in Parliament later and we are also drafting the Employee Efficiency Act,” she said during the oral question- and- answer session in the Dewan Rakyat sitting yesterday.

Replying to a question from Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar ( PBB- Santubong), she said her ministry would take into consideration the views of all parties, including scientists, academics, non- governmental organisations representatives and government officials in formulating policies and drafting strategic action plans.

This is to ensure the country’s directions in terms of climate change could be discussed comprehensively, she added. — Bernama
