Strictly uphold country’s security, sovereignty, Malaysians reminded

-

KUCHING: Malaysians must strictly uphold the security and sovereignty of the country to ensure that it is not easily encroached by external elements.

Commander of Eastern Field Command Lt Gen Datuk Stephen Mundaw said years ago, it was difficult to achieve prosperity to the point that many had sacrificed themselves to defend the country’s sovereignty.

“We should appreciate the sweat, blood and tears of former heroes who risked their lives to defend Sarawak’s sovereignty so that the future generations could enjoy peace and prosperity,” he spoke during the Warriors’ Day celebration at the Heroes Grave along Jalan Taman Budaya here yesterday.

Stephen also said everyone must remember Warrior’s Day – observed on July 31 every year – as a way to honour the struggles of national heroes who have sacrificed themselves for Sarawak’s prosperity.

He regarded Warriors’ Day as a special day to commemorate the service of national heroes in defending the country.

“Warriors’ Day can also be interpreted as a day to commemorate the fallen warriors on the battlefields, defending the country’s sovereignty from the enemies,” he said.

Former deputy chief minister DatukPatinggiTanSriAlfredJabu, Opar assemblyman Datuk Ranum Mina, First Infantry Division Commander Major General Datuk Toh Choon Siang, CID Sarawak chief ACP Denis Leong, Sarawak Tourism Federation Heritage Development Committee chairman Datuk Lim Kian Hock, the late Datuk Kanang Langkau’s widow Datin Brawang Chunggat, the late DSP Michael Padel’s widow Jabah Mingku and her son Macluie were also present at the event.
