-

MARUDI: Several organisations here received minor rural project ( MRP) grants totalling RM139,000 on Saturday.

From that figure, RM40,000 from Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas’ allocation went to the Rumah Benang Pilang village security and development committee (JKKK).

The grant was presented by Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil, who also presented MRP grants from his own allocation to the Rumah Jelaping JKKK ( RM20,000), Rumah Jelaping women’s bureau ( RM10,000), SK Sungai Arang parent- teacher association ( RM5,000), Rumah Mering JKKK ( RM24,000), Rumah Mering women’s bureau ( RM5,000), Rumah Ngumbang Tia JKKK ( RM25,000), and SK Sungai Biar parent- teacher association ( RM10,000).

In his speech at the Gawai Mangkong Tiang for Rumah Jelaping, Penguang cautioned longhouse folk not to be misled by misinformation, especially with regards to the Land Code (Amendment) Bill 2018.

He said the Native Customary Rights ( NCR) Cabinet Committee headed by Uggah would hold a roadshow beginning next month to explain the details of the legislation, particularly to community leaders.

Penguang also called on all parties to support the Sarawak government under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), “especially during this challenging time in our quest to fight for and restore our rights, which have been eroded over the years.”

The Marudi assemblyman added GPS, which comprises only Sarawak- based parties, is the best platform to do this as “only Sarawakians know what is the best for our people”.
