KUALA LUMPUR: The Producer Price Index (PPI) for local production rose 0.1 per cent on a yearon-year basis in June 2018, the Department of Statistics said.

The figure was also higher compared to a decline of 0.4 per cent in May 2018.

In a statement yesterday, the department said the sectors which increased during this period were mining (+33.1 per cent) and electricity and gas supply (+1.3 per cent).

Meanwhile, the index that registered decreases were agriculture, forestry and fishing (-10.1 per cent), manufacturing (-2.0 per cent) and water supply (-0.2 per cent) sectors.

On a monthly basis, the PPI for local production fell 0.7 per cent in June 2018 due to the decreases in agriculture, forestry and fishing, and mining (-2.8 per cent), electricity and gas supply (-0.8 per cent), water supply (-0.6 per cent), and manufacturing (-0.1 per cent).

The PPI for local production by stage of processing (SOP) declined 0.7 per cent in June 2018, mainly due to the negative changes in the index for crude materials for further processing (-1.7 per cent), finished goods (-0.8 per cent), and intermediate materials, supplies and components (-0.2 per cent).

Compared with the same month a year ago, the PPI for local production by SOP for June 2018 rose 0.1 per cent. The increases were attributed to crude materials for further processing (+12.3 per cent).

Meanwhile, the index for finished goods slipped 3.4 per cent, while intermediate materials, supplies and components decreased 2.5 per cent. — Bernama
