No delay for Pan Borneo Highway in S’wak – Baru

SIBU: The constructi­on progress of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak is going well compared to Sabah which is very much delayed, said Works Minister Baru Bian.

He disclosed that based on a report he received, the Sarawak portion of the project is about two per cent ahead of schedule.

“So far, there is no delay for Sarawak’s side (of the Pan Borneo Highway). As of May 25 this year, it is about 22 per cent completed – about two per cent ahead of schedule.

“This is a piece of good news and I am glad to hear that (there is no delay),” he told a press conference at Sibu Airport yesterday following his arrival for a working visit.

Baru, who is Selangau MP and also Ba Kelalan assemblyma­n, said Sabah’s portion of the highway, however, is delayed from one per cent to 36 per cent “depending on the sectors”.

His working visit – covering Sibu and Selangau – to see the progress of the Pan Borneo Highway is his first in his capacity as Works Minister.

He is also scheduled to visit Rumah Nyawin Judy at Mile 36 Oya Road in Tamin, the neighbourh­ood watch (KRT) operations room in Sekuau, Selangau as well as Rumah Lawrance Radin in Kemuyang here.

Additional­ly, he will officiate at the Teachers Day Celebratio­n for Selangau district at a leading hotel here.

Among the large crowd who welcomed Baru at the airport yesterday were PKR Sibu branch chairman Abdul Raafidin Majid and PKR Kanowit secretary George Chen.
