KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) should monitor overloaded lorries carrying construction materials for the Pan Borneo Highway project after complaints were made to DAP Sri Aman office of stones from overloaded lorries falling off the heavy vehicles and hitting the windscreen of vehicles following behind the lorries.

DAP Sarawak vice chairman Leon Jimat Donald made this suggestion when leading a courtesy call on JPJ Sri Aman divisional chief Hillary Bong recently.

Leon, who is also DAP Sri Aman chief, highlighted the need for JPJ monititoring of the heavy vehicles especially those working at the Sri Aman stretch of the Pan Borneo Highway project.

He added that during the visit, Hillary disclosed that JPJ Sri Aman office has a huge area to monitor which stretches from Balai Ringin to Lubok Antu and Betong.

Hillary nonetheless assured him that JPJ will do its best to serve the people.

The courtesy call also saw the visitors being briefed on the scope and areas of responsibility of JPJ in Sri Aman Division.

JPJ was the second government agency DAP Sri Aman had held a meeting with in the space of one week. It had earlier met with the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs officials in Sri Aman, where they discussed the procedures and processes involved in monitoring prices of goods when the sales and services tax (SST) is implemented in September.
