Insurance an essential protection plan in modern society — Mayor
MIRI: Living in a modern society, insurance is an essential protection plan especially for a breadwinner in the family.
According to Miri mayor Adam Yii, life more often than not, is uncertain and unpredictable, hence it is necessary to ensure ourselves and our families are adequately protected from unforseen events in our lives.
“Sadly, for something so important like insurance, there is still a large percentage of Malaysians who do not have life insurance policy,” he said when speaking at the AKARD Award Super Night 2018 organised by the National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance and Family Takaful Advisors (Namlifa) Miri at Meritz Hotel here on Friday.
“According to a study by Life Insurance of Malaysia, only 56 per cent of the Malaysian population have life insurance policy. In light of this, Bank Negara Malaysia has set up a target for the national insurance penetration rate to reach 75 per cent by the year 2020,” Yii added.
Commenting on Namlifa, Yii said it is a professional body that protects, promotes, strengthens the critical role of life insurance industry through sound financial services and the agency force.
“Likewise, its Miri branch is also carrying out similar duties to encourage members (insurance agents) to enhance their technical and interpersonal skills, knowledge, general competency and performance in the area of life insurance and financial services,” he said.
He fully agreed and supported all these efforts put in by Namlifa so that insurance agents will be properly equipped in explaining to the public about life insurance plans and how they could benefit them.
Among the awards presented at the event were Star Rookie, Personal Gold, Personal Platinum, Personal Diamond, Leaders’ Direct, Million Dollar Agency, Siller Builder Award, Silver Excellence, Gold Excellence and Platinum Excellence.
Also present were Namlifa national president Lim Kim Poi, event organising chairperson Chang Len Yin and a representative of Namlifa Miri chairman, Alice Voon.
