KUCHING: Kayak race is among activities lined up during the 4th Semadang International Tagang Festival 2018 from Aug 31 to Sept 2.

The event’s coordinator Wilson Mapus said the approximately four kilometre race will be held on Sept 2, starting at 11 am along the Semadang River at Kampung Semadang, Borneo Heights Road, about 40km from here.

Wilson said each team shall consist of two paddlers either Malaysians or foreigners, both males, both females or mixed, adding that only two-seater kayaks are allowed in the race.

He said RM30 entry fee will be charged for each kayak and participating teams are encouraged to bring their own kayak or rent the kayak from the suppliers at the competition’s site at RM50 per kayak.

“The winning kayak is the one whose bow (the tip of the kayak) crosses the finishing line first.

“If kayaks capsize during the race, participants may get back into their kayaks to continue with the race.

“The decision of the marshal shall be final and no protest or appeal will be entertained. As this is a fun race, just enjoy yourselves,” said Wilson.

He said the race will start at 11 am and advised all participants to be ready at the starting point at 10.30 am for a briefing.

Wilson also advised all participants to put on their own life jackets during the race.

The champion will receive RM300 cash and a trophy, while the first and second runnerups will receive RM200 and RM100 respectively and a trophy each.
