MIRI: Several local companies have come forward to sponsor participants and encourage more people to participate in the Colour Rush charity run aimed at promoting awareness on childhood cancer.

Last Friday, Slymax HCS Sdn Bhd presented sponsorship forms for 30 participants from Transformer Fitness Boot Camp (TFC) to join the charity run.

Handing over the registration forms to Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) president Jocelyn Hee was a representative of Slymax, Juniety Othman who said that promoting awareness against childhood cancer is part of their corporate social responsibility.

“Though childhood cancer (awareness) has been promoted for many years by SCCS, it is sad to know that not many people understand the struggle faced by the paediatric cancer patients and their family.

needs to be done to promote public awareness on the disease,” she said.

Slymax HCS Sdn Bhd is a Miri-based oil and gas consultation company that specialises on consultancy and auditing heliport, helideck and airstrip as well as conducting training courses related to the aviation industry. The handing over was witnessed by TFC coach Adnan Idi and participants. Hee, who received the forms expressed her appreciation towards the support shown by corporate companies and individuals.

“Coming to the sixth year, Colour Rush Run has been a success in raising awareness of childhood cancer in Sarawak. Making the event more fun-filled is the coloured powder that attracts more members of the public to join in the fun run.

“Of course, this year, we are hoping to encourage the younger generation to join us too, as we believe that they could be the leading group in demonstrating understanding and empathy towards children with cancer,” said Hee.

The run will take place at three sites – Saradise Kuching on Sept 17, Miri Marina Central Park on Sept 23 and Sibu Town Square on Sept 30. The run is open to all individuals, with registration fee of RM45 that includes a bib number and coloured powder.

Those who complete the 5km run route will receive an exclusive medal in the shape of a gold ribbon, which is the international symbol of childhood cancer awareness.

In Miri, the forms can be obtained and summited to Somerset Hotel at No. 12, Kwang Tung Road, from Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm or visit the weekend roadshow at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall that happens every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) from 10am to 8pm. The weekend booth will be available until the end of this month.
