Over 250 amateur golfers in the mix for S’wak Masters

KUCHING: Over 250 golfers will be vying for honours and the Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing Challenge Trophy in the 11th Sarawak Amateur Masters Open at Kelab Golf Sarawak from Aug 10 to 12.

Divided into the Open and Invited Guest categories, the tournament is expected to see golfers from Chinese Taipei, Brunei Darussalam, Sabah, Sarawak and states in West Malaysia such as Pahang, Kelantan, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan.

The top 36 golfers over two days will qualify to play in the final round on Aug 12 which will also see the commenceme­nt of the Invited Guest category.

Apart from the goodies worth over RM46,000 and prizes of over RM40,000 up for grabs in the main event and Invited Guest category, the organiser is also offering hole-in-one prizes worth over RM30,000.

They include one set of Callaway Apex Pro Iron Set; one set of Callaway XR Steelhead NSPRO Iron Set; one set of Fourteen TC650 NSPRO Iron Set; one set of Fourteen TC788 NSPRO Iron Set; and one set of PXG Gen1 0311 Iron Set sponsored by Transview Golf.

Additional hole-in-one prizes worth over RM285,000 also await potential takers on the final day.

These include one unit of Harley Davidson Sportster Forty-Eight XL1200X big bike valued at RM78,000 sponsored by Able Automobile and Borneo Superbike and one unit of Harley Davidson Trike Glide Ultra 3- Wheeler (Limited Edition) 1700cc big bike valued at RM205,000 sponsored by Transnatio­nal Insurance Brokers (M) Sdn Bhd.

Entry fee for the Open event is RM300 per person (inclusive of buggy fees).

The tournament is open to all male amateur golfers with a current NHS/USGA Handicap Index of 16.7 (18) and below.

Closing date for the submission of entries is Aug 5.
