Drug raid leads to arrests, seizure of air rifle and ammo

SERIAN: Three local men were arrested for possession of a firearm and ammunition during a drug raid by police on an unnumbered village house here on Tuesday.

District police chief DSP Aswanday Anis said the suspects, aged between 20 and 23, were rounded up around 10.30am at Kampung Ensebang Jaya in Balai Ringin by personnel from the narcotics division.

“The raid was carried out following informatio­n of drugrelate­d activities taking place in the house.

“During the course of the raid, the police team found a small bag on a table in the living room that contained two straw tubes filled with what is believed to be Syabu,” he said in statement yesterday.

He added that a further search of the house produced an air rifle along with 136 lead pellets, all of which were seized for further investigat­ion.

All three suspects subsequent­ly tested positive for drug abuse and have been detained under sections 12(3) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous

The raid was carried out following informatio­n of drug-related activities taking place in the house.

Drugs Act 1952, as well as Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960.

Aswandy attributed the success of the raid to informatio­n channeled to the police by members of the public following a series of community policing programmes carried out in the district.
