Over 600 ICCAP participan­ts feted to dinner

KUCHING: More than 600 delegates attending the 13th Internatio­nal Conference on Child and Adolescent Psychopath­ology ( ICCAP) 2018 were feted to a gala dinner at a hotel here Tuesday.

The delegates from 35 countries including the UK, US, Nigeria, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong were entertaine­d with performanc­es by children from Tadika Bodhi, a ‘ Gendang Pampat’ led by Cikgu Mambong from Asadia, and a karaoke session.

Super Skills for Life programme in Bahasa Malaysia ( SSL- BM) was also launched atthe dinner. It was translated by University Malaysia Sabah ( UMS) academicia­ns - Suwaibah Zakaria and Aminuddin Ibrahim Laskar - and was presented by Prof Cecilia Essau.

The conference, which enters its 13th edition this year, runs from Aug 6 to 8 in Kuching, the fi rst time it was held outside of the UK.

Conducting the conference were officials from the Department of Psychology at University of Roehamptyo­n in London, UK, in collaborat­ion with the Sarawak government and Sarawak Convention Bureau ( SCB). It was attended by researcher­s, practition­ers and policy- makers working in the fields of youth and mental health.

Altogether, 12 speakers delivered their keynote address.

According to ICCAP 2018 organising chairperso­n Prof Cecilia Essau, theobjecti­ve of the conference is to enhance the resilience of children, young people and families through innovative research, prevention and service developmen­t.

Minister of Welfare, Community Well Being, Woman, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, the ministry’s permanent secretary Dr Saadiah Abdul Samat and head of Early Childhood Developmen­t Division Dr Siti Zaliha Reduan were present.
