Local fashionistas to showcase S’wak culture
KUCHING: Sarawak fashion designers will take the centre stage at the upcoming ‘Alta Moda Sarawak 2018’ on Oct 25 to 27 to showcase their take on the rich and vibrant cultures of Sarawak.
The inaugural event, to be held at the old State Legislative Assembly, will feature three days of fashion showcase from 6pm to 11pm, dedicated to young designers, promising designers and established designers.
“Alta Moda Sarawak is a brand platform for Sarawak designers to come together to showcase their talents and creations in the fields of arts, culture and crafts,” its chairperson Datin Esther Mujan Balan told a press conference here yesterday.
She said the event is expected to provide a rich insight into the world of fashion opportunity in Sarawak at both the domestic and international levels through diversified programmes and activities that have been planned with the participation and support from local fashionistas, fashion interest groups, celebrities, VVIPS, associate partners and the media.

support towards ‘ Alta Moda Sarawak 2018’, it will be the next great Sarawak event to be reckoned with whilst promoting the multi- ethnics and multicultures of our people.
“We also hope to provide a unique experience and enjoyment for tourists to look forward to and to continue to boost the sustainable future of Sarawak’s tourism,” she said.
She added that around 1,500 guests would be attending the programme, which would be officiated at by Minister of by Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
Esther also said their longterm mission and vision was to hold the event on an annual basis as part of Sarawak tourism calender with Sarawak Tourism Board as the main supporter and partner.
“We are determined for Alta Moda Sarawak to be a successful yearly event to promote Sarawak as a leading fashion hub in Southeast Asia, and attract potential tourism traffic and merchandise buyers domestically and internationally for our Sarawakian designers and artists.
“Along with the support from our collaborating partners, we aim to work together with promising young, designers, established designers and Sarawak designers association to make this a reality.”
Later, a fashion show featuring designers who will be showcasing their creations at the event next month, was also previewed to the media and other guests.
Among the designers were Paris- based Aaron Von Jolly and Dato Raymond Jolly of the internationally acclaimed Von Jolly Couture, Paul Carling, Wan Bynun, Anna Sue, Ben Nazry, Gavroche by Arzmy Hargreaves, Keith Sim, Noraini Salleh as well as fashion students from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak and Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.
