MPKS welcomes SG Academy into its midst

KUCHING: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council ( MPKS) welcomes any hospitality training institute setting up shop in its jurisdiction as it is already the hub for higher educational institutions, knowledge and skill centres.

As people demand cleanliness and neatness in the hospitality sector, MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos hoped that the relevant institutions or training centres would include these aspects in their programmes.

“The council is pleased that knowledge and skill centres are being set up in Kota Samarahan. This is what a knowledge town should be like,” he said when officiating at a function to promote SG Academy on Tuesday.

“MPKSishappythatSGAcademy is focusing on the training of food and drink preparation and catering, which is up and coming in Kota Samarahan. It is run by an Iban group with very experienced trainers from the hotel and culinary industry,” he said.

“SG Academy is the best around in terms of food preparation and serving. The students gave us an excellent lunch of mostly local items, and it is really good and impressive,” he added.

Minos added that SG Academy graduates are like ‘hotcakes’ and would be gainfully employed based on the many of them already being taken up by hotels.

Congratulating Novert Sullang the owner and operator of the academy, Minos said their students were taught not just food preparation and cooking but also taught on health, personal hygiene and grooming.

“Cooks must look smart, clean and neat to impress their customers. Their kitchens must be clean and no dirty clothes must be worn, and the cooking must also be excellent,” he said.
