Be more responsive to needs of locals, community leaders told

BINTULU: Local community leaders here should be more responsive to the needs of the locals and in dealing with local issues in their respective areas.

Sarawak Welfare Department (JKM) acting director Umadi Polot in making the call said as the eyes and ears of government agencies, they must be more active and effective in playing their roles.

“As community leaders, you must ensure your people on the ground have easy access to the informatio­n particular­ly in dealing with social issues.

“You must be ever ready to inform the relevant authoritie­s about the happenings and issues in your areas and work closely with the agencies to solve the problems,” said Umadi when speaking at the closing of a workshop titled ‘ Team Building – Awareness Simulation of Social Laws 2018’ here yesterday.

The two-day-one-night workshop jointly organised by JKM Sarawak enforcemen­t branch and JKM Bintulu was attended by 32 community leaders from Bintulu, Sebauh and Tatau.

He said the programme was aimed at giving exposure and enhancing understand­ing of the workshop participan­ts on social laws which they can share with the people in their respective areas.

“This programme is also part of a medium to build a strategic partnershi­p with the relevant agencies in order to give excellent service to the community,” said Umadi.

Also present were JKM Sarawak enforcemen­t branch chief Rohana Isnawi, senior police officer from Sarawak police contingent headquarte­rs ASP Jawai Francis and JKM Bintulu officer Taddy Ajin.
