KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Bhd ( SEB) received two Gold Class II awards at the 36th Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Awards, hosted by the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH) in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The awards recognised the 108MW Batang Ai hydroelectricity power plant ( HEP) and 25MW Limbang diesel-powered station under the OSH Awards’ ‘ Utilities Sectors’ category for ‘ very good management and practices in OSH.

According to the group, this marked the second consecutive year that Limbang power station had been awarded with Gold Class II by the MSOSH.

A Gold Class I was awarded to project consortium General Electric- Sinohydro for SEB’s Kidurong Combined Cycle Gas Power Plant ( CCGP) under the ‘Construction and Engineering Construction Sectors’ award category.

The MSOSH Award is presented annually to companies in Malaysia with outstanding OSH performance.

A panel of auditors ensures that the awards are objective through stringent documentation requirements and site verification auditing.

In his remarks, SEB chief executive officer Sharbini Suhaili pledged to embed a proactive safety culture in the organisation to ensure that everyone is working towards the same objectives – no harm to people and no damage to the environment.

“These awards for Batang Ai and Limbang power stations are external validation of our commitment. We will continue to strive in improving our OSH performance even further.

“We want everybody to go home safely. The safety of our contractors, sub- contractors and their employees are important to us. We are building partnerships with our contractors to ensure that safety is given top priority across all levels. Congratulations to GE- Sinohydro Consortium for being awarded a Gold Class 1 for the Kidurong CCGP project,” he added.
