Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong, in giving the commendation, said with the programme the pupils were now in high spirit to face the examination.

“The collective efforts of the school, parents and the community would surely contribute to the pupils’ success. This programme, which runs from Aug 10 to Sept 21, is one of strategies, led by the headmaster John Lang, to help the pupils to achieve academic excellence.

“The focus is on the teaching and revision of English, Bahasa Malaysia, Mathematics and Science subjects,” Nyabong said when officiating at the opening of the programme at the school hall, which was attended by teachers, parents and Primary 6 pupils, yesterday.

Ninety-two pupils of the school are registered for the UPSR this year. The school targets at least five pupils to score straight A’s this year. Last year, 111 pupils sat for the examination, and scored a GPS 3.18. Only one pupil scored straight A’s.

Nyabong said he has an education fund called ‘ Tabung Pendidikan Pelagus’ to promote quality education in the constituency.

“The 12 primary schools here are welcomed to write in for financial assistance to organise extra curriculum activity and motivation programmes,” he added.

John and chairman of the school’s parent- teacher association ( PTA) TR Achen Lenang also spoke at the function, which was also attended by a political secretary to chief minister Nicholas Kudi and Nyabong’s personal assistant Wallace.

Nyabong later declared open the programme and presented RM5,000 to the PTA to carry out its many activities for the school.
