Syariah law practitioners must strive to be efficient — Dr Abd Rahman

KUCHING: Sarawak Syariah Judiciary Department (JKSS) should be wise and proactive in handling various problems and challenges so that the Islamic legal and judicial institution would continue to be respected by all parties.

According to Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, the efficiency of Syariah law practitioners in dealing with cases in court is also crucial. He believes that just a slight negligence could cause a big problem and adversely affect the image of the department.

“The commitment from all parties is important to provide efficient services to the people. In addition, Syariah law practitioners should always improve their level of skills in any field as long as it does not violate their professional status,” he spoke during the JKSS Service Aspiration and Awards 2018 ceremony at a hotel here on Wednesday.

Dr Abdul Rahman said as a member of the executive committee of the federal Institute of Islamic Affairs, he regarded capable and well-informed Syariah law practitioners as the ones who could enhance JKSS’ image and help the department to move forward.

He also viewed that the development and understanding of Islam in Sarawak is improving, with better acceptance by all segments of society.

Sarawak Mufti Datu Kipli Yassin, Sarawak Chief Syariah Judge Awang Suhaili Ledi and Sarawak Islamic Council president Datu Misnu Taha were among those present at the event.
