Inter-cultural mooncake fest at Carpenter Street to return with bigger excitement

KUCHING: The historical Carpenter Street here will once again host the annual Kuching Inter- Cultural Mooncake Festival, scheduled to kick off this Sept 17.

Hosted by the Federation of Kuching Division Community Associatio­ns and the Old Market Community Associatio­n, the festival celebrates its 17th anniversar­y this year.

The week-long festival, to run till Sept 24, will feature a night market promoting the sight, sound and taste of Sarawak as well as showcasing the true unity of the people.

From its humble beginning under the guidance and stewardshi­p of former federation president, the late Dato Sim Swee Yong, this festival has grown in leaps and bounds over the years to become a signature event anticipate­d by and involving the people from all strata of society including traders, performers, participan­ts and visitors.

The baton of leadership has been passed to Sim Kian Chiok and Amy Tnay, who will cochair the organising committee of this event.

“Our team is currently very busy with all the preparatio­ns. We are certain that our Chief Minister ( Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg) will be pleased that our vision and mission – to promote the sight, sound and taste of Sarawak and showcase our true unity – are very much intact and that the festival will continue.

“With the support of the Sarawak government and benefactor­s from the business community as well as corporatio­ns, we hope to host another successful event for over 120,000 people who are expected to visit us throughout eight days of activities,” said a festival spokespers­on.

The organising committee is calling upon those interested including artistic, cultural, traditiona­l or modern performers, entreprene­urs and hobby enthusiast­s, to participat­e in the festival.

The stall/trade space is charged at RM320 per lot for the duration of the festival.
