Port Klang’s container tariff hike deferred to March 2019

-

PUTRAJAYA: The second phase of the increase in Port Klang’s container tariffs will be deferred to March 1 next year from Sept 1 this year.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the ministry had agreed to the deferment to give more time to port users and other industry players to adapt and stabilise businesses to the Sales and Services Tax ( SST), which would be reintroduced on Sept 1.

“This deferment is a clear indication of the government’s commitment to ease the rakyat’s burden besides taking into consideration the impact of the SST implementation,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said the review of Port Klang’s container tari f fs were made through the Port Klang Authority ( Scale of Rates, Dues and Charges) (Amendment) By-Laws in 2015, whereby the increase in tariff charges by 30 per cent would be carried out in two phases. — Bernama THE Kuala Lumpur Tin Market ( KLTM) closed US$ 100 lower at US$ 19,550 a tonne yesterday, despite the higher price of the metal on the London Metal Exchange ( LME).
