Stage set for inaugural Bidayuh music awards — Organiser

KUCHING: The first- ever music awards show to honour Bidayuh artistes is set to be staged on the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) multi-purpose hall here this Nov 24.

The ‘ Ngarum Lagu Bidayuh ( NLB) 2018’ will be hosted by Bidayuh Artistes and Musicians Association ( Bama).

According to Bama president Dr Alim Impira, the NLB 2018 marks the evolution of the Bidayuh music industry, spanning close to five decades.

It is said that the Bidayuh music industry began with the release of the first recorded album by Richmond Allan Morshidi in the 1970s.

“This first- ever Bidayuh music awards show aims to recognise and honour the works of excellence and creative contributions of songs from Bidayuh musicians and artistes, produced within the period of Nov 1, 2016 to Sept 15, 2018.

“With ‘red carpet table dinner’ audience concept, dining tickets for guests is priced at RM40 per person – or RM400 per table,” he said.

Alim also said the NLB framework for the categories of awards and the criteria of evaluation was based upon those of Anugerah Muzik Dayak (AMD) – a biennial awards ceremony for musicians and artistes from the whole Dayak community including the Ibans, the Bidayuhs and the Orang Ulus.

The NLB could be seen as a reputable selective gateway for Bidayuh representation in the AMD.

However, freelance Bidayuh musicians and artistes could also opt to choose direct submission into the AMD, added Alim.

With free entry for nomination, NLB 2018 features 19 award categories, out of which, the nominees for four awards – Best Male Vocalist, Best Female Vocalist, Best Performance and Best New Artiste – would be assessed based on live staging during the finale.

“All award categories will be evaluated via two judging panels, at preliminary and final stage.

“The closing date for submission of nomination forms is Sept 15, 2018,” said Alim.
