-

SIBU: There are currently four vacancies for School Improvement Partners (SIP) Plus in Sibu district that need to be filled, according to Education Department deputy director Abang Mat Ali Abang Masagus.

He said the vacancies are open to all 23 principals here and the criteria is they must either be Excellent Principals or highperforming principals.

“It is an open secret that all 23 principals in Sibu district are considered as having excellent performance. We need principals to become SIP Plus to help the schools.

“In the case of Sibu district, we need the four SIPartners Plus vacancies to be filled up with our principals – at the least they can help the primary schools.

“If we can help the primary schools, we can elevate their performance and eventually, raise our education ( level) as a whole. That is the whole idea behind SIP Plus,” he told reporters after officiating at the Sibu District Teachers Day Celebration here on Saturday.

Earlier in his speech, Abang Mat Ali noted that as of June 30 this year, Sibu alone has 4,208 teachers – more than 10 per cent of the 41,472 teachers in Sarawak.

Meanwhile, Sibu assistant district education officer Nur Katerina Abdullah, who is also discharging the duties of district education officer, acknowledged that as front-liners, teachers play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the country’s education transformation through the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2025.

The function also saw 105 teachers recognised for their performance, while 47 primary and 17 secondary schools here received awards for various achievements in academic, sports and co- curricular activities.

Also present at the function was Sarawak Teachers’ Union ( STU) Sibu division chairman Tan Kuang Wui.
