Association chairman reminds members not to bring in any personal agenda
KAPIT: It is crucial for members of any clan- based association to not bring any personal agenda, as this would not benefit anyone.
Kapit Tai San Ten Association’s new chairman Kong Siau Kui also believes that every member, especially the office-bearers, must work together with dedication and commitment to ensure that the association would stay relevant in today’s modern world.
“I must stress here that the Tai San Ten Association is unique because unlike other clan-based associations like Kapit Kwang Tung Association where the members are the Cantonese and Chiang Chuan Association (where the members are) only the Hockiens, the Tai San Ten Association houses those from both Chinese clans.
“Having said this, I appeal to every committee member to put aside any personal agenda and be fully committed to serving the association.
“If we put too much emphasis on own clan, then the split could come in – this would be bad for the association.
“We wouldn’t be wrong if we strictly abide by the association’s constitution and objectives, aimed at serving the members regardless of their backgrounds.
“Among our ultimate goals are to provide social welfare, promote children’s education and enhance the unity among the Cantonese and Chiang Chuan sub- communities,” he said in his opening address after the installation of Kapit Tai San Ten Association’s new office-bearers at the civic centre here on Saturday night, where they also held this year’s Mooncake Festival, as well as the presentation of education incentives to outstanding students.
Permanent advisor to the association Pemanca Yong Thu Fook witnessed the oath-taking ceremony involving members of the committee for the 2018– 2019 term.
Assisting Siau Kui are vicechairman Ma Tian Kock, secretary Kong Sien Jong and treasurer Sng Geok Yien.
The respective assistant secretary and assistant treasurer are Ma Bee Kuan and Kong Aik Ming.
Committee members are Kong Chok Yon and Lu Siew Seng (general affairs), Teoh Say Beng and Kong Chak Lin (children and education), Teo Tian Chai and Ho Chew Ming (welfare), while the ordinary members are Kwong Ee Seng and Ma Kian Soon.
Kong Sien Liong, Sng Geok Seng and Yeo Kim Teck sit on the association’s panel of advisors.
