PBDSB calls on Dayaks to consolidate under one party

-

KUCHING: There is an urgent need for Dayaks, particularly the Bidayuh, to consolidate themselves into a single political force, says Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak Baru ( PBDSB) vice president Andrew Puro.

He said through a single political force, the community could move in unison to raise their socio economic welfare, particularly with regards to their participation in the business sector in Sarawak.

“Through one political force, the Dayak would also have stronger voice to redefine the Native Customary Rights ( NCR) land status to mixed economic viability status so as to raise the financial values of Dayaks’ vast land areas for productive economic activities,” he said.

Andrew noted that PBDSB strongly believes in equal opportunities and freedom for all human beings no matter a person’s race and religion, but it was not the case under the past and present governments both at state and federal levels.

He alleged that the Bidayuhs and the Dayaks in general had long been marginalised by the previous government while things do not seem to be heading for good under the current government.

“Statistics have showed not only very few Dayaks were appointed to important positions of decision making in both state and national statutory bodies but there were also the marked imbalances of Dayaks being employed in all government departments.

“Under one political force, we can fight for equal opportunities not just in government jobs but also in education and scholarships for Dayak students,” he said.

Andrew said PBDSB would strive to create awareness on Sarawak’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

“It’s very unfortunate that our Sarawak rights has been denied and dishonoured by the Malayan leaders.

Andrew said PBDSB will strive to woo more Bidayuh to rally behind the party as it prepares to make its presence felt in the 12th State Election.

He added that more political activities would be organised to spur the Bidayuh resurgence and participation in the party’s struggles.

He said so far the response on the ground among the Bidayuh in Puncak Borneo towards the presence of PBDSB has been positive.
