PMSB opens opportunity for school-leavers to pursue careers in maritime, shipping sector

-

MIRI: Pelita Maslaut Maritime Academy ( PMSB) is inviting school-leavers to come for its trainee enrolment interview to be conducted at its centre in Lutong here this Aug 20.

According to PMSB managing director Masni Amit, the August intake is still open and local school-leavers are encouraged to take this opportunity, which could lead them into having good careers in the maritime and shipping fields.

“We have over 10 years of experience in this area and have helped many to escape from the vicious poverty cycle.

“The trainees who excel in their course at PMSB would most likely be ‘ booked’ by various shipping agencies and companies, to be absorbed in various positions after the completion of their industrial training,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Masni said many PMSB trainees have gone one to become maritime captains, officers and welding engineers working with local and overseas shipping companies.

Under the PMSB course, the trainees would undergo a threemonth in-house theory session, followed by a six-month industrial training with shipping companies that partner with the academy.

Masni observed that the maritime and shipping industries are still dominated by foreigners and in this regard, he believed that the local workforce should be just as competitive – if given adequate training.

“We are committed to producing more skilled manpower in the maritime and shipping industries as these areas need more local workforce,” he said, highlighting PMSB as last year’s recipient of ‘ Malaysia’s Best Maritime Centre Award’ by the Ministry of Transport.

Interested school-leavers can come to Pelita Maslaut Miri Maritime Academy on Lot 1516, Block 1 MCLD at Lutong Commercial Centre. Alternatively, call the academy at 085- 646055 for more details.
